Wide Barrier No Hindrance To Sasso Corbaro

While favourite backers feel the Greg Hickman-trained, last start Group 3 winner Pierata (Aus) (Pierro {Aus}), is already over the line in the Magic Millions 3YO Classic, barrier one for the exciting colt may prove more of a disadvantage, than barrier 12 (with emergencies out) will for the Kris Lees-trained Sasso Corbaro (Aus) (All Too Hard {Aus}).

Interestingly the rivalry between the sires of the two favoured runners that occurred on the track and has now continued in the breeding barn, is likely to once again play out here, with Vinery's All Too Hard (Aus) (Casino Prince {Aus}) looking to add the 3YO feature to his sire record. Sporting the China Horse Club silks, the Mill Park Stud-sold Sasso Corbaro has always been highly touted and with her current unbeaten campaign highlighting that she has furnished into a very nice filly, her most recent three length victory over 1300m indicates that the 1400m of Saturday's race will pose no issue.

With last start rider Blake Shinn partnering the Toby Edmonds-trained Whypeeo (Aus) (I Am Invincible {Aus}), who must be a massive risk at the distance, leading Victorian jockey Damien Oliver will ride the filly for the first time. Charging late to finish a narrow second behind Whypeeo over 1200m in the Listed Gold Edition S. Dec. 16, once stepped up to the 1350m of the G3 Vo Rogue Plate Dec. 30, the Corey Brown-ridden colt exploded to a two-and-a-half length victory and rocketed to favouritism for Saturday's A$2-million 1400m race. The likelihood of getting stuck behind tiring horses close to the rail, while runners are charging down the middle of the Gold Coast track has many feeling that the inside barrier could prove a negative for the colt.

Impressive recording victory over G3-winning juvenile Single Bullet (Aus) (Not A Single Doubt {Aus}) in the Magic Millions 3 & 4YO at Wyong, the team Hawkes-trained Wild Heart (Aus) (Hinchinbrook {Aus}) was racing first up that day and should strip fitter here. No stranger to Magic Millions race day success, trainer Bjorn Baker will saddle up leading contender Goodfella (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}), a graduate of Newhaven Park Stud, as was his 2YO Classic winner of a few years back in Unencumbered (Aus) (Testa Rossa {Aus}). A winner over 1400m in the past, the well-bred colt disappointed two runs back behind Whypeeo before working home well for third behind Pierata.

At odds, the Chris Waller-trained Calculated (Aus) (So You Think {NZ}) has been working home at his past two starts over 1100m and 1200m, and Saturday's 1400m should see the Star Thoroughbred syndicated colt appreciate the trip.
